I am modeling the Shamokin Division of the Reading Railroad in Eastern Pennsylvania. It is in the heart of the anthracite coal region. The time period is 1950 - 1957. This is a large area with many large coal processing plants and coal mines. I have selected a part of this division that includes Tamaqua, Mahanoy City, Gordon, Locust Summit Central Breaker, and Shamokin. The operating sessions include passenger and freight service. The main business is moving raw coal to Locust Summit Central Breaker for processing and then shipping the processed coal to other destinations. There are also through and local freights. The grades in and out of Gordon require additional helper engines. This is achieved with the last of Reading's big steam (T-1s). Most first generation diesels are also in use. I use Digitrax (radio) DCC. There have been two operating sessions, and they went very well. I plan to have one Saturday session per month with 7-8 operators running for a 3-4 hour session. In the near future I plan to have a smaller session on a Monday night.
